Disney Are Making A Sequel To Their Live Action Remake Of The Lion King

Disney are reportedly making a sequel to their live action remake of The Lion King.

The movie dropped last year and grossed a total of $1.6 billion worldwide.

According to Deadline, Oscar winner Barry Jenkins is set to direct the upcoming movie.

He worked on the 2016 hit film Moonlight, and the 2018 flick If Beale Street Could Talk.

Meanwhile, Jeff Nathanson will return to write the script.

He previously worked on Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Catch Me If You Can, Rush Hour 2 and Rush Hour 3.

It's believed the first draft has already been written.

Deadline reports it'll, 'further explore the mythology of the characters, including Mufasa’s origin story.'

It's still unclear whether the cast will return for the new movie.

Chiwetel Ejiofor, Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Chance the Rapper and loads more voiced characters in last year's live action remake.

While original composer Hans Zimmer created the music alongside Pharrell Williams.

A release date for the new movie hasn't been announced.
