At one point during the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, viewers thought all hope was lost as 'Dark Aster' ship was hurtling towards the ground with Peter Quill, Rocket, Gamora, Drax and Groot on board.
But the wooden creature that literally says the same word for everything took it upon himself to shield the crew from total destruction.
Fans of Groot were understandably devastated.
While he didn't say much, he was a pretty lovable character and his sacrifice was tear-inducing.
But as the film ended, we see a baby Groot is growing in a tiny pot, making everyone think that a part of the character had been saved and was growing back into his former self.
Oh, how we were wrong!
The man behind the lens was asked a question on Twitter about which of the cute critters you would save: baby Groot or a Porg from Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Um, obviously Groot.
First Groot is dead. Baby Groot is his son.
