Viewers of the winter Olympics were confused when they saw Elizabeth Swaney of Team Hungary drop in for skiing halfpipe and casually meander back-and-forth in a trick-less run.
Swaney, an American, found a loophole in the qualifying system.
By attending every World Cup qualifier with a strategy of finishing without falling, Swaney got an Olympic bid to PyeongChang.
US-born athlete finished dead last after the most basic of runs
How freeskier Elizabeth Swaney made it to the #WinterOlympics with this very simple halfpipe run: https://t.co/enfDyoQjGC pic.twitter.com/kHTAV7XND4

Least surprising news: US-born not-good-skier w #TeamHungary #ElizabethSwaney finished dead last in #Olympic #halfpipe qualifying. But she achieved her childhood Olympic dream, qualifying for#PyeongChang2018 by showing up at World Cup contests for 2 years. https://t.co/K5jbxwNKwC pic.twitter.com/B7J9w4oEq4

“That’s right kids, you too can get into the Olympics just like Elizabeth Swaney.
1. Have enough money to travel the world competing in skiing events for 2 years.
2. Make sure the events have less than 30 competitors.
3. Place in the Top 30.”

I can’t figure out if Liz is psycho or just some sort of adventure seeker that we should be applauding for her hustle to get into the Olympics. She used to compete for Team Venezuela in skeleton!
