For most of us, Christmas is a time of celebration. A time of joyful light and noise
But for people with autism, it can be a nightmare of sensory overload. And the hectic sights, sounds and smells of Christmas mean that it’s definitely not the most wonderful time of the year.
The way we celebrate Christmas in Ireland neglects an entire community.
This year, we want to raise awareness of the difficulties that autistic people face at Christmas time by creating a call-to-arms for people and businesses around the country to be more aware and help provide safe spaces for them.
All Is Calm - A campaign that encourages people to slow their celebrations down for just one hour, turn down the music, dim the lights, and create a calmer, more autism-friendly environment amid the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.
You can have your own #alliscalm Coffee Morning that both helps raise funds for As I Am, and provides a much-needed moment of calm during the holiday season.
