The biggest festival of the Irish summer is set to announce its line up on Thursday 23rd March. We've had a look into our crystal ball and come up with ten acts we think might make the bill.
The XX
The English trio released their latest studio album in January and are currently in the middle of a US and European tour. They will be appearing at a number of festivals including Coachella and Bestival with a convenient gap in the schedule for an Electric Picnic slot.
Major Lazer
The trio released Music is the Weapon, their third studio album, this year and are currently touring it. The weekend of Electric Picnic remains free in the diaries with their last scheduled date at Reading and Leeds Festival two weeks before.
Daft Punk
If their two previous live albums, Alive 1997 and Alive 2007, are anything to go by then we should see an Alive 2017 tour sometime this year. Although fans were disappointed by a hoax website which circulated with the news late last year, we still have hope.
Kasabian
It’s been three years since their last Irish gig and with a sixth studio album promised for this year and headline slots secured for Reading and Leeds Festival we may just see the English rock band pop up on the Electric Picnic bill.
Gorillaz
We’re getting a new album soon and the band is set to play their first live gig in over five years this summer. They're set to host their own festival, Demon Dayz, on June 10th in Margate, England. They’ve also confirmed that they plan to tour their new album when it drops, could that mean a slot on the main stage?
Eminem
Despite having released very little music since his last album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, in 2013, Eminem was announced to headline the Reading and Leeds Festival. With no other tour dates announced it leaves his diary completely open for an Electric Picnic appearance. Guess who's back?
Muse
They are on the festival circuit this summer and their tour dates leave a suspiciously timed gap for an Electric Picnic appearance. They last played Ireland when they brought their Drones World Tour to the 3Arena last April.
Foo Fighters
The American rock band is playing a number of festivals this summer including a recently announced slot at Glastonbury. They put on a great show and are currently free the weekend of Electric Picnic, hmm...
Calvin Harris
He dropped new music with Frank Ocean recently and with his Vegas residency finishing up on 17th June he’s a free man for the summer. He hasn’t played the Irish festival circuit since 2013 so we’ll keep our fingers crossed, maybe even light a candle.
Fatboy Slim
He is no newcomer to a festival slot and is already set to play Creamfields, Leeds and Reading Festival, Parklife, Tomorrowland and Wildlife Festival along with a load of Ibiza dates this summer so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him make the Electric Picnic bill. Seriously, when does he sleep?
We'll have the line up news for you as soon as it's announced.
