Normal People's Paul Mescal appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week.
During his appearance, the American talk show host asked him to teach him how to do an Irish accent.

Stephen asked what those who aren't Irish get wrong when they attempt the accent.
Paul explained that it's all in how you pronounce your, 'As,' and your, 'Rs.'
He gave an example, "Like car, and far."

The Irish actor laughed, "It's that kind of hard R."
Stephen gave it a shot but Paul wasn't at all impressed, so he gave him a phrase to learn.
"Say, 'That car is far.'"

When Stephen tried it, he couldn't help but laugh at Paul's reaction, "Oh god, you hated that!"
He tried again, and unconvincingly, Paul replied, "Yeah... That's pretty good!"

Stephen also spoke to Paul about his Normal People success.
He asked him about the moment he realised the show had blown up.
The actor replied, "I suppose more recently just landing in Australia on the other side of the world."
