Simon Cowell breaks his back
The X Factor's Simon Cowell has broken his back after falling off his electric bicycle.
The accident happened on Saturday, and he underwent surgery later that day.

A spokesperson for Simon told TODAY on Saturday, 'Simon had a fall from his bike on Saturday afternoon whilst testing his new electric bike in the courtyard at his house in Malibu with his family.'
'He hurt his back and was taken to the hospital. He's doing fine, he's under observation and is in the best possible hands.'
In a later statement, the representative said, 'Simon has broken his back and will be having surgery this evening.'
Simon also confirmed the news on Twitter, 'Some good advice... If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time.'
'I have broken part of my back. Thank you to everyone for your kind messages.'
'And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met. Stay safe everyone Simon.'

The accident
Meanwhile, a close friend told the Mirror that Simon's back was broken in several places.
They said, 'the impact missed his spinal cord by about a centimetre,' which could have left him paralysed.
The source said, 'I spoke to him before the surgery and he was in incredible, ridiculous amounts of pain and also in shock.'
'His back was broke in several places, but he is actually very lucky.'
The insider continued, 'He was in surgery for six hours and they had to put a metal rod in his back and fix a number of things.'
'He is recovering in hospital now and we expect him to be there for a few days and then he will take things from there.'
'It is too early to say when he will be back on TV.'
