Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy is the creative mind behind the new project.

Speaking at the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday, Gosling, says it was written in the stars as he told of his childhood love of the franchise.

His mum  even sent in a picture of his childhood bedroom with Star Wars bedsheets to be shared on screen at the event.

He says: "I guess I was probably dreaming about Star Wars before I even saw the film."

He adds: "This script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters.

"It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn."

Levy says the new space adventure is "not a prequel, not sequel, it’s a new adventure."
He adds: "It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet".

There's a two years wait for the new flick, as its not slated to land to cinemas until 7th May, 2027.
