Paul Mescal on becoming an overnight heart-throb
Paul Mescal has become Ireland's latest heart-throb ever since his first appearance as Connell Waldron in Normal People.
The actor opened up to Grazia Magazine this week admitting he never expected this reaction.
He said, 'Heart-throb? That's genuinely the last thing I was expecting!'

The 24-year-old soared to fame following his performance in season one of the Sally Rooney novel last week.
He told the magazine that, 'it's been an incredible few days, even being stuck in isolation by myself.'
'I’ve felt a huge amount of love, especially from family and friends back home.'

Paul added, 'There have been a lot of people screaming into their phones at me.'
Speaking on becoming a heart-throb, the actor laughed, 'When people meet me in person they’ll be disappointed.'
'People are taking that from the character of Connell, and that’s something I actually never thought he would be.'

He admitted, 'It was genuinely the last thing I was expecting, so I haven’t formed an opinion on it yet, I suppose.'
Paul went on to explain how social media has been a massive distraction in his life since the show aired.
He said he's been trying to limit his time online because, 'You can lose a whole afternoon to Twitter.'

It seems the actor is finding it hard to comprehend his success.
James Corden tweeted his love for Normal People during the week, saying Paul and his co-star Daisy are, 'extraordinary.'
