Jeremy Clarkson apologises

A newspaper column by Jeremy Clarkson, in which he said he, 'hated,' Meghan Markle has been removed amid serious backlash.

After the broadcaster apologised for his words, The Sun revealed he requested the article be taken down.

The link to the original piece now takes you to an article that reads, 'In light of Jeremy Clarkson’s tweet he has asked us to take last week’s column down'

The Independent Press Standards Organisation has also received more than 17,000 complaints about the column.

While more than 60 MPs have written to the editor of The Sun condemning it.

In his article, Jeremy said he, 'hates,' Meghan, 'on a cellular level.'

He wrote, 'At night, I’m unable to sleep as I lie there, grinding my teeth and dreaming of the day when she is made to parade naked through the streets of every town in Britain while the crowds chant, “Shame!” and throw lumps of excrement at her.'

Jeremy faced major backlash, with his own daughter even releasing a statement to say she stands against everything he wrote.

In response to the backlash, Jeremy tweeted, 'Oh dear. I’ve rather put my foot in it.'

'In a column I wrote about Meghan, I made a clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones and this has gone down badly with a great many people.'

'I’m horrified to have caused so much hurt and I shall be more careful in future.'

No further comment has been made.
