In disbelief the Gladiator star said: "Still a lad from Ireland."
"This is mad, there's very little else to say about it other than that I just never expected something like this to happen, so I'm kind of just floating at the moment." he continued.
The 28-year-old actor co-stars with Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, Derek Jacobi, and Joseph Quinn in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator sequel.

The story follows Paul's character, Lucius Verus, who is captured by the Roman army after they attack his city and make him fight as a gladiator.
Gladiator II is out in cinemas from the 15th of November.
