Connell's chain gets its own Twitter emoji

Paul Mescal shot to fame following his portrayal of Connell Waldron in Normal People.

However, he admits he'll never be quite as popular as the chain that hangs around his character's neck.

Viewers became obsessed with the piece of jewelry - so much so that Twitter have given it its own emoji.

Fans have been reacting to the social media platform's latest emoji online.

One Twitter user said, 'We live in a world where a chain now has an emoji. #connellschain'

While another wrote, 'I cannot believe #connellschain has an emoji hahahahaha'

Not only does the chain have its own emoji, but it also has its own Instagram account.

The page dedicated to the fictional character's jewelry has amassed an incredible 92.9k followers.

The bio simply reads, 'We stan Connell’s chain'

Paul's reaction to the chain's success

As per MailOnline, Paul told Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1 that the chain obsession is, "slightly terrifying."

He said, "I'd be slightly embarrassed if the chain account took over my follower count."

"But it's probably going to happen at some time so I better just reconcile that fact, that the chain will always be more popular than I am."

He said, "Now it's like this beast that's growing legs. I think it's just so funny because… it's a chain."

"I'm not going to abuse anybody who thinks chains are sexy but I wore chains and necklaces before and I definitely didn't get the attention that this chain is getting."
