Did anyone ever really believe them?
Avril Lavigne has slammed the conspiracy theory that she was replaced by a body double twenty years ago.
Fans online had claimed that she died and a doppelgänger named Melissa had taken her place to continue Avril's career.
Avril cackled with laughter as she called the rumours "dumb."

Where did the theory come from?
Although the theory has been going around since the early noughties, it became popular again in 2017 when it became a topic of discussion on X (formerly known as Twitter).
People analysed Avril's appearance over the years and claimed they were "clues" to prove the theory correct.
At the time, Avril called it "funny."
“Doesn’t everyone constantly say that I literally look the same as I always have?" she told Galore.

What did Avril say?
It turns out Avril still find it. She laughed with Alexandra Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast about the rumours, saying, “Obviously I am me, it’s so dumb.
“On one end, everyone’s like, ‘Oh, my God, you look the exact same. You haven’t aged a day.’ But then, other people are like, there’s a conspiracy theory that I’m not me.”
But it turns out, Avril considers herself lucky as the rumours spread about her could be worse.
“Honestly, it’s not that bad. It could be worse, right? I feel like I got a good one. I don’t feel like it’s negative. It’s nothing creepy.”
We never believed it for a second... we swear 👀
