SPIN Talk - Thursday 2ndJuly
Football, dubbed the beautiful game, is without a doubt the world’s most dominant sport with people obsessed with it from Addis Ababa to Bangkok, Leitrim to Moscow but regardless of how loyal the fans are, there are serious questions over players motives in the modern game.
With the record transfer of Ronaldo this summer from Man United to Real Madrid for a whopping €94 million there can be no doubt that football has become more about money than the love of a club for many players.

Arsenal’s chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, has now called for a cap on players salaries as a way of encouraging financial stability within the game because even though there is a huge amount of money floating around the world’s richest league, the premier league, most clubs are in debt.
Do you think that players salaries should be capped and who are the most overrated players in the world.

The issue of gangland crime is close to the bone for many people in the south west, and stories of witness intimidation, difficulties in securing a jury who do not feel under threat, and the loss of innocent lives because of gang figures are all too familiar.

Now the government are moving to tackle the problem with the Criminal Justice Amendment Bill, which will see suspects of gangland crime being tried by a jury less court, and will allow covert surveillance to be used as court room evidence. It is hoped these measures will lead to an increase in convictions, and eventually a decline in gangland crime in Ireland.

Earlier this week, SPIN Talk spoke to UCC’s Dr. Niamh Hourigan. Her paper on gangland crime in Limerick threw up the shocking news that girls and boys as young as 8 are being groomed for a life of gang crime, and were already involved in intimidation and arson attacks. So in a country where gangs seem to rule, will this new Criminal Justice bill be enough to tackle crime? We are still taking comments on the SPIN South West facebook fan page!
What an idiot!
A few weeks ago on the show we were talking about driving tests and whether you think you’d pass yours if you had to sit it now without any preparation. Driving instructor extraordinaire, Sean Collopy, was talking to us on the show that day and set down the challenge that day for us to do it.
John & Muireann sat a simu test and believe us there was nothing simulated about it!!!
We both failed, but have a look at the full video below to see how we got on...
We are back on Monday from 12.45 with more SPIN Talk Action!
